Put in what the award costs in points, what the same booking costs in cash, and any taxes the award still charges. You’ll see what each point gets you, next to what a point is worth and the least the program itself pays.
How it’s worked out
Facts, with their dates.
- Cents a point. The cash price less the award’s taxes and fees, divided by the points. 60,000 points for a $900 flight with $50 in taxes: $850 ÷ 60,000 = 1.42¢.
- The value. The middle of independent valuations (Frequent Miler, One Mile at a Time, The Points Guy, NerdWallet) when two or more agree; otherwise BoardingArea’s own estimate, labelled as one.
- The floor. The least the program itself pays for a point, from its own page (cash back, a statement credit), checked every morning.
- What it doesn’t say. Whether to book: that’s yours. The bloggers’ posts on the program are on Points.
